Annual Scientific Meeting 2009
WELCOME
38th Annual Scientific Meeting of the Society for Academic Primary Care.
8th - 10th July 2009

Dear Colleagues

On behalf of the SAPC and the Universities of Dundee and St Andrews, I would like to invite you to join us for the SAPC Annual Scientific Meeting to be held in St Andrews from the 8th-10th July 2009. The theme of the meeting will be “Exploration and Enlightenment – A Voyage of Discovery’. St Andrews has a strong reputation as wonderful conference venue with excellent access to a range of outdoor leisure facilities – not just golf.

As in other years we anticipate a high standard of scientific papers from the membership. We are keen to encourage more papers on educational research and will introduce participant defined panels. Panels comprise grouped set of abstracts to form a panel of related presentations. The aim is to provide an opportunity for those with a particular interest to ensure a coherent set of papers for presentation in a single oral parallel session, with a chair’s presentation to introduce and summarise the session, and with some flexibility over how the time is organised. There will also be workshops and special interest group sessions where the key methodological issues facing our academic discipline will be presented and discussed, and as in previous years, we shall be awarding the prize for the Best Research Paper of the Year.

We have put together a social programme, designed to help you make the most of what Scotland has to offer, and to take time off from the stimulus and excitement of the conference sessions. We look forward to welcoming you to our social programme, starting with a drinks reception at the Royal Research Ship Discovery in Dundee, where you will have a chance to tour Captain Scott’s Ship and listen to music on the quayside. During gaps in the scientific programme we will be organising beach volleyball, sand art and a Golf or putting competition. On the evening of the second day of the conference, you will have the opportunity to dine in the 5* Old Course Hotel followed by a traditional Ceilidh.

On behalf of my colleagues, I warmly invite you to submit examples of your high quality research for presentation and discussion, and to register now for a scientific and social meeting to remember. I look forward to welcoming you to the Scottish ASM next July.
