Professor Yvonne Carter CBE was an outstanding and inspirational leader who had a remarkable impact on academic general practice. To commemorate her contribution to primary care research the Royal College of General Practitioners, through its Scientific Foundation Board, and the Society for Academic Primary Care have jointly instituted the Yvonne Carter Award for Outstanding New Researcher award.
Purpose of award
This annual award of £1000 is intended support the international development of promising researchers in primary care. It is intended to enable opportunities to meet and collaborate with researchers in other countries and to attend and present work at an international research meeting.
Eligibility
Applicants should be (pro rata) within 5 years of either attaining a PhD (non-medical) or 10 years of completing specialist training in general practice (medical). You should be affiliated to a UK University, have published at least one piece of original research in a peer-reviewed journal and be actively engaged in high quality research. The awards will be restricted to persons whose background the Award Panel considers to be genuinely grounded in primary care. The decision of the Panel is final and not open to appeal.

RCGP Research Paper of the Year Award
Deadline for submissions end of February 2012The Research Paper of the Year Award is open to research teams with at least one GP author/team member.
This year, as well as primary care in general, DeNDRoN is supporting a dementias and neurodegenerative diseases award.
Each subcategory winner(s) will receive a prize. An additional award will be awarded to the overall winning paper, selected from the subcategory winners. The authors of the overall winning paper will be invited to present their paper at the annual RCGP and Society for Academic Primary Care Conference.
The sub-category winners will be announced in early Summer 2012, with the Research Paper of the Year overall winner announced at the awards ceremony, supported by Novartis, in June 2012.
Criteria
To be eligible, the paper must:
- Relate to a research project in general practice/primary care undertaken within theUKand/or theRepublicofIreland.
- Have been published in print in a peer-reviewed journal between 1 January and 31 December 2011.
- Have at least one author who is an active general practitioner.
Entries are judged for:
- Originality
- Applicability to General Practice
- Scientific content
- Clarity of Presentation
