Primary Care in resource-poor countries

AIMS OF THE GROUP

To co-ordinate academic support for primary care in resource-poor countries, particularly in Africa and Asia

OBJECTIVES

  • To provide a forum at which those engaged in doing or supporting R&D in resource poor countries can share their experiences and co-ordinate their activity.

  • To provide a central point of liaison to facilitate fund-raising and interaction with external agencies such as NGOs, WHO and EU initiatives (such as PRIMAFAMED).

  • To act as an effective pressure group to promote UK support for R&D in resource poor countries, particularly in relation to potential funding agencies.

  •  To act a source of information and help for those who wish to work with resource-poor countries and in particular to promote opportunities for training.

Planned Group Activities

  • To compile a register of projects in resource-poor countries which are being carried out by SAPC members 

  • To compile a register of interested people who would like to join an email list 

  • To compile and disseminate a register of partner Universities in resource-poor countries and training opportunities.

  • To meet with the other agencies with whom we need to work closely, particularly the Royal Colleges, NGOs and potential funding agencies
