Heads of Departments Group
The Heads of Departments (HODs) group is made up of the heads of departments of general practice and primary care in medical schools in the UK and Ireland. The aim of the HODs group complements that of SAPC, being to support the development of general practice and primary care via university centres of excellence in research and education.
Key tasks for HODs include:
- a focus on building academic capacity;
- promoting the role of academic primary care within medical schools;
- leading local programmes of high quality primary care education and research;
- linking with primary care outside of Universities;
- as well as managing the resources of university departments.
Further details can be found in the HODs constitution.
As part of their role in capacity building and promotion of academic primary care, the HODs group have produced a number of reports summarising developments and challenges in academic primary care in UK medical schools.
